3 edge rushers the Giants should still target in free agency

Clay Matthews

As previously mentioned, if the Giants sign another edge rusher in free agency, it would need to be on a team-friendly deal. One veteran that could be a valuable asset to New York’s defense would be Clay Matthews.

After a productive 10-year career with the Green Bay Packers, Matthews chose to sign with his hometown team in the Los Angeles Rams in 2019. Despite turning 33 years old last year, Matthews proved that he can still contribute to a defense, notching eight sacks and two forced fumbles with the Rams.

As a matter of fact, the eight sacks by Matthews in 2019 were the most he’s recorded since the 2014 campaign. In the first week of free agency, the Giants have shown an interest in signing linebacker from the Packers.

The reason for that is New York’s new defensive coordinator, Patrick Graham, served as Green Bay’s linebackers coach in 2018. Provided that, Matthews would be another player familiar with Graham that could benefit the Giants next season.
