3 players who must take the next step for the Seahawks this offseason

2. WR DK Metcalf

Metcalf had a very good rookie season with 58 receptions for 900 yards and seven touchdowns on an even 100 targets. Then he set a rookie playoff record with 160 receiving yards against the Eagles in the Seahawks’ Wild Card win.

So what could Metcalf really need to improve on, you say? He spoke about it on radio row during Super Bowl week.

“Mainly my drops,” Metcalf said. “I had way too many drops in my opinion. Some of those drops could have changed the outcome of the game. I’m just working on those drops, man.”

Metcalf also had three lost fumbles as a rookie, so ball security was a more broadly based issue beyond the drops. He answered questions about being able to turn elite physical tools into NFL production as rookie, but improvement in a couple important margins (with better concentration at the root?) can push Metcalf to a higher level in his second season and also push Seattle’s pass offense to an elite level.
