The upcoming NFL season will feature no shortage of intriguing headlines. That includes the Atlanta Falcons adding Todd Gurley to its already impressive offense to gear up to compete with a tough NFC South division.

After being released by the Los Angeles Rams early in the offseason, Gurley signed a one-year, $5.5 million contract with the Falcons. It’s not often a 25-year-old who recently was very recently the best at his position signs a ‘prove it’ deal after being cut.

When Gurley emerged as an elite running back starting in 2017, his two-year run as the league’s best running back was genuinely sensational. He totaled 40 combined touchdowns and 3,924 yards from scrimmage within this period.

There was a stark slowdown in Gurley’s production last season as he totaled just 1,064 yards from scrimmage and 14 combined touchdowns. There was a sense that arthritis in his left knee may be causing the back to already be slowing down five-seasons into his career.

With that being said, here are three reasons Todd Gurley is heading for a resurgent season with the Falcons in 2020.
