Cardinals Improved Murray’s Supporting Cast
The circumstances a player faces as a rookie after being a quarterback selected with the No. 1 pick are typically difficult. The situation Kyler Murray entered with the Arizona Cardinals in 2019 was no different, but they’ve since made improvements to their roster.
No quarterback was sacked more than Murray last season and he didn’t have a true No. 1 receiver in the Cardinals’ offense. They have since acquired one of the NFL’s elite wide receivers in DeAndre Hopkins and drafted offensive tackle Josh Jones in the third round.
In addition, the Cardinals will also benefit from having Kenyon Drake to start next season as he was acquired midway through 2019. Let’s not forget, players like Christian Kirk could progress in their development, making things easier on Murray, too.
There are still a variety of holes to fill in the Cardinals’ offense but they improved, nevertheless. With more talent around him, Murray should naturally be able to take a step forward in his development as a result, while Jimmy Garoppolo’s supporting cast was already highly effective.
