Mike Pennel, Kansas City Chiefs
The role Mike Pennel played for the Kansas City Chiefs last season didn’t garner the same level of attention as some of the team’s main star players. That doesn’t mean he wasn’t a crucial component to the overall success of their defense.
The 29-year-old has emerged as one of the league’s best run stoppers available in this year’s free agency class. For a team like the Cowboys, this is something that would be especially appealing to be able to make opposing offenses more one-dimensional.
Aside from a crucial QB hit on Jimmy Garoppolo in the Super Bowl, Pennel managed to rack up 24 tackles, two QB hits, and one sack in 11 appearances. His stats don’t jump off the page but his presence at stopping rushing attacks in the interior defensive line is evident.
