4 NFL teams who should make a late push to sign Clay Matthews

The bulk of the NFL’s top free agents have signed new teams with the exception of a few. The main options available are not going to step in and make a major impact but can fill a legitimate role, like Clay Matthews.

The reason Matthews is currently available was the result of the Los Angeles Rams deciding to release him in mid-March. It was a move that created $3.75 million in salary-cap space and was much-needed spending room given the team’s restrictive finances.

The role Matthews filled with the Rams last season was at inside linebacker, but he shouldn’t be limited to just that role. He is certainly capable of making a positive impact from either linebacker spot, even if he’s not as dynamic as he was earlier in his career.

Matthews appeared in 13 games for the Rams last season. During those performances, he totaled 37 combined tackles (nine for loss), eight sacks, 11 QB hits, and three passes defensed.

With that being said, here are four NFL teams who should make a late push to sign Clay Matthews.
