5 dark-horse NFL MVP candidates for the 2020 season

Vikings, Dalvin Cook

Dalvin Cook, Minnesota Vikings

The last running back to win MVP was Adrian Peterson in 2012. It would be fitting that the player who replaced him as a franchise back is the next. There is no denying the NFL has become more of a passing league. However, a strong running game could be lethal. The Minnesota Vikings have moved to a more run first game-plan. After trading Stefon Diggs, I expect Cook to get even more touches.

Dalvin Cook is one of the most explosive players in the NFL. He has speed, vision, and can cut on a dime. Truly Cook is one of the few backs that can score any time he touches the football. Dalvin Cook is also very versatile. He can hurt teams in the passing game just as much as the run game. He isn’t talked about much in the NFL’s best back debate, but he should be. I expect this year to be a big breakout year for Cook.

One issue he must overcome is his injury history. Dalvin Cook has yet to play an entire season. If he wants a shot at MVP, he will have to play the entire year. However, if Cook stays healthy through the whole season there is a real possibility he leads the NFL in rushing yards.
