Aaron Rodgers and the Green Bay Packers came into the NFL offseason needing some help on the offensive side of the football. While Davante Adams is one of the top wide receivers in the game, they needed more talent around him at the position. Green Bay didn’t sign any of the elite free agent receivers, but they did go out and sign Devin Funchess.

Following the move, the Packers’ star quarterback was asked about the team not making a move for another weapon. Rodgers had a hilarious response.

“Uhhh, did you hear about a guy named Funchess? You have ‘fun’ and ‘chess’ in the same name. You know it’s gonna be pretty good.”

Seriously though, it is clear that Rodgers is excited about the Packers picking up Funchess. It may not be the huge impact signing that many were expecting, but the team could also look to the 2020 NFL Draft to bring in another weapon.

Funchess is a big target at 6-foot-4 and nearly 240 pounds. He is a wide receiver in a tight end’s body. Green Bay needs playmaking and Funchess can make plays on the football down the field.

The Packers are likely still looking to make an impact move at receiver. Rodgers isn’t getting any younger and the offense was a piece or two away from looking great in 2019. Funchess and a rookie wideout in the first or second round might do the trick.

Rodgers isn’t unhappy with the offseason the Packers have put together at all. Fans aren’t happy with how quiet they have been, but Green Bay doesn’t need to make drastic moves with how close they were to the Super Bowl in 2019.

It will be interesting to see what the rest of the offseason holds, but Rodgers and the Packers seem to be pleased with what they have been able to accomplish so far.
