Colts: 3 numbers for DeForest Buckner to target in 2020

Stan Szeto-USA TODAY Sports

20 quarterback hits

Again, the Colts didn’t just bring in Buckner to provide a boost in their run defense. Even before Buckner was acquired, Indianapolis is coming off of a season where they boasted the No. 7 run defense, allowing just 97.9 yards per game.

Therefore, while the addition of Buckner could result in them having a much-improved run defense, it should lead to more chances to get to the quarterback. Since his days at Oregon, Buckner has shown a knack at getting after the quarterback.

Over the course of his four-year stint with the 49ers, the former Duck tallied a total of 74 quarterback hits. After a career-low of 14 quarterback hits in 2019, Buckner should look to post 20 quarterback hits for the third time in his career in 2020.
