After nine and a half years with Jason Garrett as the head coach, the Dallas Cowboys brought in Super Bowl-winning head coach Mike McCarthy to help the team finally compete for a championship. The Cowboys have had a talented roster for nearly the entire past decade, but Garret was only able to muster up two playoff wins during his time as coach.
Along with his strong pedigree, McCarthy will bring a slightly different offense to Dallas. Even though the team kept last year’s offensive coordinator Kellen Moore, expect McCarthy to still have a strong influence on the offensive philosophy.
This means the emphasis on the passing game will become more paramount, even more so than last year when Dak Prescott attempted the most passes of his career.
So, where does that leave running back Ezekiel Elliott? He’s one of the best backs in the league and he’s proven he can carry an offense when need be. But, McCarthy’s track record shows that he rarely relies on his backs to carry the load.
