Once upon a time (well, 2014 and 2015, etc.) the fantasy football tier rankings at tight end went like this: 1. Rob Gronkowski. 2 through whatever-everyone else. The arrivals of Travis Kelce and Zach Ertz closed that gap. But Gronkowski was the No. 1 fantasy tight end in 2017 (for the third time in four years) before looking diminished in 2018 and retiring after that season.
Gronkowski’s long-time quarterback with the Patriots, some guy named Tom Brady, signed with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers this offseason. Speculation about Gronkowski coming out of retirement for a reunion naturally surfaced, and it happened as he used his leverage to unretire and force Bill Belichick to trade him to the only team he’d play for.
Even at far less than his best, Gronkowski was still a starting-caliber fantasy tight end in 2018 (TE11 in both standard and full PPR).
There’s a lot of buzz around the Buccaneers now, and Gronkowski is a prominent part of it. Here are three fantasy football predictions for “Gronk” in 2020.
