What to expect from D.K. Metcalf in fantasy football in 2020
Again, Metcalf is coming off of a 2019 season where he fell short of a one-thousand-yard season by 100 yards. That’s pretty impressive when you consider the fact that he didn’t catch more than four passes in a game until Week 9 versus the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Altogether, provided his spectacular numbers in 2019, Metcalf concluded last season with a grand total of 187.1 fantasy points. Among wide receivers, he finished 33rd in scoring.
Heading into his second season, the Seahawks have plans to utilize their No. 2 wide receiver in a variety of different ways in 2020. As a matter of fact, Seattle’s offensive coordinator — Brian Schottenheimer — said that the Seahawks intend to move Metcalf around more in the offense.
Of course, in his rookie season, the Ole Miss product primarily spent his time strictly on the left side of the field. Wide receivers are typically less productive when locked on one side of the field. But if Metcalf is able to be moved around more, that could open some more opportunities for him.
Standing at 6-foot-4, nearly 230 pounds, Metcalf is a big, physical target at the wide receiver position. His perfect blend of size and speed make him an ideal target in the aerial attack for the Seahawks.
Without a doubt, the Seahawks have shown, even with Wilson under center, that they have a run-oriented offense. Still, that doesn’t mean that Seattle’s passing game won’t be effective with Metcalf and Lockett. Greg Olsen was also added to the offense in free agency.
Another positive sign for Metcalf is that the Seahawks didn’t select a wide receiver early in the 2020 NFL Draft. That goes to show how confident Seattle is in Metcalf to improve even further as a pass-catcher next season.
The second-year wideout is projected to have heightened expectations in 2020. Given his current quarterback situation coupled with his probable increased usage, the former No. 64 pick is someone to target in fantasy football leagues. Even though he finished as the 33rd highest-scoring wide receiver last season, it wouldn’t come as a surprise if Metcalf finishes in the top 25 next season.
