Entering his third season as a pro, Atlanta Falcons wideout Calvin Ridley is looking to breakout as a true star wide receiver. He’s been solid over his first two seasons, hauling in a total of 17 touchdowns, but he’s yet to produce like a true No. 1 wideout.
Obviously, that’s because he’s playing opposite of arguably the best wideout in football in Julio Jones. Since 2014, Jones has been targeted a league-high 932 times, so it’s not hard to see why Ridley doesn’t see more opportunities.
Ridley has had 92 targets in each of his first two seasons, and would’ve easily surpassed that number last year if he didn’t get injured. Still, with Jones playing on the other side of him, it’s unlikely we’ll see Ridely get WR1 type targets, leaving him in a weird spot for fantasy owners.
Last season, Ridley saw six or fewer targets in the 13 games he played in, cracking 10 targets just three times. Jones, on the other hand, had at least eight targets in those same 13 games. Matt Ryan will throw it to Jones whenever he can.
