NFL analyst ranks top 5 tight ends heading into 2020 season

The tight end position in the NFL can be a game-changer when a team has one of the better talents. It’s difficult to find the right balance between having the size to absorb contact and the speed to keep up in space.

It used to be that the tight end position rankings started with Rob Gronkowski and the discussion was a matter of who ranked behind him. His return to the league could shake up the list after he shows how impactful he can be after taking time off.

There are some tight ends that are able to put up big numbers but it simply doesn’t last. One example that stands out of this kind is Eric Ebron with the Indianapolis Colts. After totaling 750 yards and 13 touchdowns in 2018 with Andrew Luck, his production plumetted last season.

There aren’t many surprises when it comes to the top of the tight end position rankings starting with Travis Kelce and George Kittle. However, some players achieved a breakout season in 2019 and have earned a spot on the list after not being in that position this time last year.

With that being said, here are the tight ends listed in the top five for their position ahead of the 2020 NFL season.
