4. Jared Goff
I can hear Los Angeles Rams fans now, “how is Jared Goff the worst quarterback in the division when he just took his team to the Super Bowl just two seasons ago?” Goff isn’t a ‘bad’ quarterback, but he clearly got exposed in that Super Bowl against the New England Patriots and he had a hard time bouncing back from it last season.
He had his worst season in 2019 since his disastrous rookie campaign. His QB rating dropped from a 101.1 in 2018 to an 86.5 last season, good for 22nd in the league.
Without a consistent running attack to assist him, Goff struggled to find a rhythm all season. The lack of a solid rushing attack forced Goff to throw the ball 626 times, tied for the most attempts in the league last season.
Goff just isn’t that type of quarterback. Frankly, no quarterback should be tossing the ball that many times in a season. Goff is at his best when Sean McVay establishes the running game and allows Goff to lean on the play action game.
If the Rams can get back to their identity next season, Goff should certainly have a better outing. But until Goff can prove he can put the team on his back when the going gets tough, it’s hard to categorize him as one of the best in the league.
