Randall Cobb reveals reasoning for leaving Cowboys in favor of Texans this offseason

When former Green Bay Packer head coach Mike McCarthy became the head man in Dallas, many believed free agent wideout Randall Cobb would get re-signed. Due to his familiarity with McCarthy, this felt like a foregone conclusion.

With the Dallas front office struggling to sign all of their marquee players, Cobb found himself on the open market searching for a new team, ultimately landing with the Houston Texans. According to to reports, he signed a three-year, $27 million deal with $18.75 in guarantees.

He had a stellar season in Dallas, hauling in 55 catches for 828 yards and three touchdowns. Running it back again in Dallas seemed like it would have been a good decision, but Cobb revealed his reasoning for leaving in a conference call with Houston reporters.

“I think when you look at Deshaun and what he’s been able to do since he’s been in the league, I’ve been really impressed from afar watching him,” Cobb said during the call. ” He has tremendous ability. He’s a winner. He’s won at every level, from high school to college. I think he has that ability to take us to a Super Bowl and I want to be a part of something special with him.”

Obviously, quarterback Deshaun Watson was the primary reason Cobb wanted to join the Texans, and who can blame him?

With DeAndre Hopkins no longer with the team, Cobb figures to fit right in as the starting slot receiver, with Will Fuller and Kenny Stills manning the outside positions.
