When the Seattle Seahawks last pulled off a Super Bowl victory, it was during a time when they fielded an elite secondary on defense. They now have that once again with the addition of Jamal Adams.
The Seahawks gave up a hefty trade package in order to land Adams from the New York Jets. They sent a first-round and third-round pick in 2021 and a 2022 first-round pick in exchange for Adams along with a fourth-round pick.
Having players with versatility when it comes to being able to line up at different spots is a great tool to have. For the Seattle Seahawks, they now have what could be considered as the ultimate chess piece in Adams.
It’s not fair to label Adams as a ‘box safety’ when considering how often he lines up at different spots. During his career, he has spent 1,099 snaps at linebacker, 868 at free safety, 328 at strong safety, and 318 on the edge, per PFF.
During the 2019 season, Adams recorded 75 combined tackles (10 tackles for loss), 6.5 sacks, 13 QB hits, 7 pass breakups, and 2 forced fumbles in 14 appearances. Overall, he provided a highly versatile impact that many can’t replicate individually, which is why he’s an All-Pro talent.
With that being said, let’s take a look at what Jamal Adams will bring to the Seahawks’ defense.
