Why Marshawn Lynch Could Actually Make Sense For Houston
Let’s not get carried away here and act like Marshawn Lynch would be the piece that takes the Texans over the top. In fact, let’s be real, most of you are laughing at this potential offseason addition already.
While it may seem ridiculous, Lynch could actually be a huge addition for the Texans. Houston has become a pass-heavy offense. Lynch would not be asked to carry the football 20 times each and every week.
Even if the Texans were able to re-sign Hyde, signing Lynch could make a lot of sense. He wasn’t the starter in Seattle late in the year, but he played a key role. There are very few backs in the league with the kind of nose for the end zone that Lynch possesses.
In the three games that Lynch played after returning to Seattle, he scored four touchdowns. He wasn’t able to be a massive playmaker for the Seahawks, but that was never expected from him. Lynch did show that he still has some good football left in the tank.
Houston could also use a running back like Lynch who is a capable pass blocker. Lynch is underrated in that area and would be a great physical presence when a running back is needed to help block.
Another reason for the potential signing would be the kind of personality and leadership that Lynch brings to the locker room. He keeps his teammates upbeat and has the Super Bowl winning experience that could be valuable for players like Watson. This move makes a ton of sense when you take a deeper look.
Assuming the Texans are not signing Lynch with the expectation that he will be a 1,000-yard rusher again, this move makes sense. Lynch could be a guy that picks up 50-75 yards on the ground, but will also have games where he has 30 yards. Despite that, the Texans could use a veteran like Lynch on the roster.
