1 Crazy Number For Eagles QB Jalen Hurts Through 8 Weeks

Jalen Hurts, Eagles

Jalen Hurts and the Philadelphia Eagles are putting their undefeated record on the line in Week 9 on the road against the Houston Texans. Houston comes into the matchup tied for the least amount of wins in the NFL with the Detroit Lions as both teams only have one victory.

This is a game not many people are expecting to be competitive, as the Eagles are two-touchdown favorites on the betting line. That does make sense as they have been one of the best teams in the league this season, while the Texans have been on the opposite end of the spectrum.

While there are plenty of differences between the two franchises and where they are at roster-building-wise, the biggest is arguably quarterback. The Eagles look to have found their franchise player at the position in Jalen Hurts.

There were some questions about Hurts during the first two seasons he was in the NFL as he struggled with accuracy. He was able to produce and win games with his legs, strength and athleticism, but throwing the ball he was erratic.

This season, he has figured it out. Hurts is producing career-high stats across the board as teams can no longer just dare him to throw the ball as he is finding success. Just how much success is he finding aerially? According to PFF, Hurts is the highest-graded quarterback in the NFL this season when targeting beyond the sticks with a 93.6.

That means when Hurts is throwing a pass beyond the first down marker, whether it is five yards or 15, he has recorded the best grade in the NFL. Given his struggles previously with accuracy and ball placement, this is a huge step in the right direction.

Having a strong supporting cast around him, as the Eagles acquired A.J. Brown from the Tennessee Titans during the 2022 NFL Draft certainly helps. Brown joined 2021 first-round pick DeVonta Smith and tight end Dallas Goedert, giving Hurts one of the better pass-catching trios in the NFL.
