Chris Ballard and the Indianapolis Colts have had another great offseason and are looking like legitimate contenders in the AFC heading into the season. Carson Wentz was acquired to be the team’s new starting quarterback, which will be a major upgrade in and of itself. The franchise also brought in quite a few quality young players in the 2021 NFL Draft.

While the season is getting closer and closer, the Colts could still look to improve their roster. There aren’t a ton of high-quality free agents available anymore, but there is one that Indianapolis should consider signing.

Golden Tate is one of the most intriguing free agents still available on the market. He even has mentioned that he would like to sign with the Colts if the franchise is interested in having him.

Last season with the New York Giants, Tate ended up playing in 12 games. He caught 35 passes for 388 yards and two touchdowns. They weren’t big numbers, but he wasn’t utilized in a consistent role either.

Looking at the current Colts’ wide receiver room, they could use another consistent veteran player. T.Y. Hilton came back in free agency on a new deal and Indianapolis has a very intriguing young talent in Michael Pittman Jr. In addition to those two guys, the Colts also have Parris Campbell and Zach Pascal.

Those guys are all good talents, but adding Tate on a cheap one-year deal would be a perfect move to make. He is a possession wideout who can make tough catches across the middle. Wentz could use a guy like that.

At 32 years of age, Golden Tate is coming down to his final couple of years in the NFL. Joining a contender like the Colts on a one-year deal would be an ideal fit for him as well. Indianapolis could give him a small, but consistent role in their offense.

Granted, the Colts may not have interest in making a sizable move at this point in the offseason. Indianapolis might feel comfortable with their roster as currently constructed.

However, if they would like to add a veteran wide receiver who could make an impact to the roster, Tate would be a very good fit.
