1 Insane Stat Shows How Dominant Eagles’ Darius Slay Was In 2022

There were a lot of eye-popping statistics that the Philadelphia Eagles recorded during their dominant 2022 campaign. When you go 14-3 during the regular season and advance to the Super Bowl, you are likely going to accomplish some very impressive feats.

Records were set on both sides of the ball, both for the franchise and league-wide. But, it was on defense where a majority of them were broken. The Eagles’ pass rush was one of the best the NFL has ever seen, recording 70 sacks, which was just two short of the record.

But, Philadelphia did set a sacks record having four players, Javon Hargrave, Haason Reddick, Brandon Graham and Josh Sweat, all record double-digit sacks. The 2022 Eagles became the first team in league history to have four players with 10+ sacks apiece.

With a pass rush like that, the secondary’s job becomes much easier. Offenses have to rush a little more and the Eagles had players in the back end of their defense capable of taking advantage and making plays.

One of those players was cornerback Darius Slay. Slay earned his fifth Pro Bowl nomination of his career, playing in all 17 games and recording three interceptions with 14 passes defended. He had a statistic that will blow people away as well.

According to the Sports Encyclopedia, via JPA Football on Twitter, Slay recorded more catches than Justin Jefferson while covering him last season. Slay recorded two interceptions, while Jefferson managed to catch only one pass.

Jefferson won the wide receiver Triple Crown in 2022, leading the league in receptions, yardage and touchdowns while taking home the Offensive Player of the Year award. While he found plenty of success throughout the campaign, none was found against Slay, as he and his Eagles won running away in the matchup against the Minnesota Vikings, 24-7.

Jefferson did catch six passes for 48 yards in the game, but all but one of those receptions came when being covered by someone other than Slay.
