The New York Jets stunned Jalen Hurts and the Philadelphia Eagles by handing them their first loss of the season in Week 6, topping them by a score of 20-14 on Sunday.

The Jets’ defense suffocated the Eagles’ offense, holding Philadelphia without a point in the second half. New York also forced Hurts into three interceptions, including a pivotal late-game pick that resulted in the Jets scoring a go-ahead touchdown.

Next Gen Stats shows just how Gang Green muzzled Philly over the weekend, applying significant pressure on Hurts via the pass rush.

Of course, it sounds pretty elementary. If a quarterback gets pressured, he will struggle. No kidding.

However, for a mobile signal-caller like Hurts, pressure is typically not as much of an issue, as Hurts can easily roll out of the pocket and make plays with his feet.

And you know what? Hurts did do some of that against the Jets, carrying the ball eight times for 47 yards and a touchdown.

But otherwise, the Jets had the Eagles’ offense in a strait jacket, and much of that was due to the constant pressure they applied. They only sacked Hurts twice, but their ability to regularly get into the backfield and cause havoc clearly resulted in Hurts making some questionable decisions with the football.

All of that being said, New York is hardly the only club to make life difficult for Hurts this season.

Through six games overall, Hurts has thrown for 1,542 yards, seven touchdowns and seven interceptions while completing 66.2 percent of his passes and posting a passer rating of 84.7.

For comparison’s sake, the 25-year-old only threw five picks all of last season, so his 2023 numbers are a far cry from the stat line that allowed him to finish second in MVP voting a year ago.

Jalen Hurts and the Eagles will aim to get back on track when they take on the Miami Dolphins next Sunday.
