The New York Giants entered the NFL offseason with a few major needs to address. One of those came at the linebacker position. They needed to get faster and more physical in the middle of their defense and they were able to do just that with the addition of former Indianapolis Colts’ linebacker Bobby Okereke.
Coming into free agency, Okereke was a very intriguing potential target for linebacker-needy teams. Another team that made a push to sign him was the Chicago Bears, but they backed off when they were able to land both T.J. Edwards and Tremaine Edmunds.
Following the move to sign Okereke, two intriguing statistics have been shared that are interesting to note for the Giants. These statistics show how capable Okereke was in coverage as well as from a tackling perspective.
Those numbers certainly should excite the Giants about their new linebacker. He can cover the entire field and is a playmaker. Many Colts’ fans wanted Indianapolis to re-sign him due to the level of play has has shown.
During the 2022 NFL season with the Colts, Okereke ended up recording 151 total tackles to go along with two forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries, and five defended passes. Those numbers show the kind of impact that Okereke could bring to the Giants.
At 26 years of age, Bobby Okereke is just entering the prime of his NFL career. He fits the desire to win now and build for the future. New York got themselves a good one and a potential steal with this signing.
Expect to see Okereke make an immediate impact in New York. He may not be viewed as a star yet, but this new contract shows how much talent he truly possesses. The Giants’ fan base are going to love what they see from him.
