For plenty of months, people have been anxiously waiting to see what the Panthers do at quarterback. Of course, that is dependent upon what the team chooses to do with Newton.

Both Kyle Allen and Will Grier started at quarterback in 2019 while Newton dealt with a foot injury. It’s safe to say that neither of them provided Carolina with any confidence in them as starters.

In the event that Newton isn’t back in 2020, the Panthers could be looking to add a veteran in free agency. Amid the choices they have, signing Philip Rivers would be a head-scratching move.

Rivers is coming off of arguably the worst year of his 16-year career in 2019. The veteran signal-caller finished the season with 4,615 yards, 23 touchdowns, and 20 interceptions.

The Los Angeles Chargers are prepared to move on from Rivers in 2020, as a result of his poor play. While the Chargers struggled to win games, Rivers began to show father-time catching up to him. With that in mind, it would make little to no sense for the Panthers to sign Rivers as a short-term solution.
