Let’s be honest here, Melvin Gordon’s career has been a bit of hit and miss. He’s broke the 1000-yard season just once (2017). There was a time when he was being labeled a bust but it was just him not getting the opportunities to showcase his skills. Last season, in 12 games, Gordon rushed for 612 yards on 162 Carrie’s with eight touchdowns while averaging 3.8 yards per carry. His time was split with Austin Ekeler and with the Chargers’ offense built on the arm of Rivers, it was slim pickings.
The other factor he will bring to the Dolphins’ offense is his ability to catch the ball out of the backfield. In 2019, Gordon caught 42 passes for 296 yards and one touchdown. But once again, he missed games while also sharing the workload. As the primary back for the Dolphins, Gordon can showcase his skills the same he did in 2017 when he rushed for 1105 yards and caught 58 passes for 476 yards. This is exactly what the Dolphins need.
