2 huge reasons the Patriots should pursue Melvin Gordon in free agency

The New England Patriots have two huge goals to achieve this offseason: make sure Tom Brady is happy with his new contract, and make sure he has enough weapons around him to make one last championship run in 2020.

Their defense was the team’s obvious strength last season, so there’s really no need to make any major changes on that side of the ball. The Patriots offense, however, was not the perennial juggernaut of a unit that we’re accustomed to seeing in New England. Their glaring lack of speed and consistency plagued the team throughout the 2019 season and it eventually led to their demise in the wildcard round of the playoffs, where they fell to the Cinderella Tennessee Titans squad.

Once the Patriots figure out Brady’s contract, their focus must shift promptly to bringing in weapons for their Hall of Fame quarterback to play with. While most fans believe getting a top tier wideout is priority number one, there’s a very good running back who’s set to hit the market and could certainly help the Pats reach another Super Bowl.

Melvin Gordon of the Los Angeles Chargers is set to hit free agency as an unrestricted free agent come March. Adding him to an already stout backfield in New England would not only make Brady’s life easier, it would make their offense a matchup nightmare for opposing defenses.

Here’s two reasons why New England needs to pursue Melvin Gordon in free agency.
