2 huge reasons the Patriots should pursue Melvin Gordon in free agency

Signing Gordon Would Keep Brady Happy

There have been conflicting reports on Brady’s contract negotiations with the Patriots. Some say Brady is looking for at least 30 million per year, while others report that he doesn’t want to sign a huge deal because he wants the team to bring in weapons for him. Whose to say which reports are true, but if we’re judging these conflicting reports based off Brady’s contract history, history will tell us that he’s likely going to take a discount in order to bring in big time free agents.

If this is how the contract negotiations pan out for New England, they should have enough cap space to lure someone of Melvin Gordon’s caliber to the franchise.

Gordon’s power and nose for the end zone would fit perfectly in offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels’ system. They’ve began to lean on the run more and more in recent years, so signing Gordon would be right on par for their brand of football.

Gordon has found the end zone at least nine total times in each of the past four seasons. The team already has a few versatile running backs in their backfield, but they still lack a true work horse back who can close out games for them.

A running game is a quarterback’s best friend. There’s no doubt Brady would welcome Gordon’s work horse ability in with open arms.
