The Jacksonville Jaguars are one of the only two winless teams in the NFL following Week 4 at the time of writing. The Tennessee Titans are the other winless team, but they have a chance to fix that on Monday Night Football. As such, the Jaguars might be the last winless team in the NFL. This is a fast path toward selling instead of buying at the trade deadline.
Depending on which direction general manager Trent Balke wants to go, the expendable players may shift on a week-to-week basis over the next month. However, through one month, here are two players who could be on their way out of Jacksonville.
Evan Engram, TE
Evan Engram turned 30 at the start of September, per Pro Football Reference. With hitting that milestone, most fans know to brace for injuries or a fall-off in production. In an unfortunate twist, Engram wasted no time suffering an injury this season. He has seen snaps in just one game. At this point, coming off one of the best seasons of his career, the Jaguars would be smart to let him heal and ship him away for some trade capital.
Travis Etienne, RB
The team’s running back is nearing the end of his rookie contract. Not long ago, that wouldn’t change much for players like Etienne with multiple 1000-yard seasons. However, after paying Trevor Lawrence and getting rewarded with an 0-4 start to the year, the Jaguars likely will be shy to pay a big sum to Etienne. The running back is set to have potentially his worst season yet. Depending on how the next few weeks go, he could be seen as a trade option to help rebuild the offense and also save the team money in the future.
Set to turn 26 in January, Etienne is also running into potentially the latter stages of his prime running back career. As such, sending him away also means the Jacksonville Jaguars don’t have to worry about whether a down game is just that for the next couple of years.
