Believe it or not, the New York Jets currently have a weaker record at this point in 2024 compared to what they had in 2023. Zach Wilson was able to help the Jets defeat the Buffalo Bills in Week 1 last year. Meanwhile, Rodgers failed to beat the San Francisco 49ers this season.
With an easier Tennessee Titans opponent on tap in Week 2, the Jets appear to be the favorites. However, questions and concerns remain around the squad.
Here’s a look at the two biggest concerns for New York.
Can Aaron Rodgers finish the game?
Aaron Rodgers failed to finish his second consecutive Week 1 game. That much has been covered. However, it does set a precedent that the Jets will be quick to yank their quarterback when the going gets tough in the interest of health. If the Jets fall behind against the Titans in the second half, where will Robert Saleh set the bar?
How much of a deficit with how much time left in the game will push him to take Rodgers out? It is clear that his is willing to when the Jets fall behind by several touchdowns. However, could a mere 14-point deficit be enough to remove Rodgers?
The Jets quarterback has pulled magic tricks off in unlikely spots before with the Packers. Is Robert Saleh willing to risk Rodgers to that end? If not, Saleh could be cutting his quarterback down at the knees, dooming the Jets this season.
Will Breece Hall turn it up a notch?
If a key goal of the Jets’ season is to keep Aaron Rodgers healthy, then Breece Hall is the foundation of that plan. However, he needs to perform much more reliably to save his quarterback from getting the ball.
Hall rushed 16 times for 54 yards and a touchdown in Week 1. This isn’t horrible by any standards. However, he averaged just 3.4 yards per attempt. To become truly reliable this season, he will need to average around 4.5 yards per carry.
Hall is capable of this, considering he has averaged 4.7 yards per carry in his career. However, running backs can seemingly fall off at any time. New York Jets fans expect the running back to hit a different gear this week, but until it is seen, the ability remains unproven.
