The focus on quarterback Kirk Cousins has dominated discussions during the 2024 offseason for the Minnesota Vikings. However, another critical aspect looms large as Pro Bowl pass rusher Danielle Hunter approaches free agency.

Since the Vikings drafted him in the third round of the 2015 NFL Draft, Hunter has been a cornerstone of their defense, amassing an impressive 87.5 sacks in 119 appearances.

While the spotlight shines on Cousins, Hunter’s future remains uncertain. Speculation suggests he could depart before the Vikings even address his situation. Teams like the Detroit Lions and Chicago Bears have reportedly expressed interest in acquiring him for the upcoming 2024 season.

Rumors of this interest surfaced during a recent episode of the “Access Vikings” podcast, where analysts Andrew Krammer and Ben Goessling discussed potential landing spots for Hunter. They also pondered whether these rumors were fabricated by division rivals to inflate Hunter’s market value.

Ideally, Hunter will remain in Minnesota. His departure would not only signify the Vikings’ failure to retain a key player but also mean facing him on the field twice next season if he joins a division rival.

Goessling further suggested that regardless of where Hunter ends up, a return to Minnesota for the 2024 season seems unlikely.

With Hunter’s potential departure looming, the Minnesota Vikings may need to explore free agency or the upcoming NFL Draft to fill the void he leaves in their defensive lineup.
