2 players the Cleveland Browns must sign in free agency

Neville Hewitt (Inside Linebacker, New York Jets)

Besides Randall, the Browns are also in danger of losing Joe Schobert in free agency. Schobert led the team with 133 tackles in 2019 and also combined for four interceptions and two forced fumbles.

In the last three seasons, Schobert has been the model of consistency for Cleveland. Despite his consistency, the Browns haven’t shown much interest in keeping him around.

In the event that Schobert is on his way out of Cleveland, then the Browns have to fill the void that he leaves behind. If they don’t want to pay a lucrative amount for an inside linebacker, then Neville Hewitt could make perfect sense.

Hewitt is a five-year veteran that could go under the radar in free agency. For the first time in his career, Hewitt was able to start in more than 10 games for the New York Jets in 2019.

In his 12 starts, Hewitt tallied 72 tackles, three sacks, five deflections, and two interceptions. Just like Schobert, Hewitt is capable of making tackles and playing in coverage; making him the perfect replacement for Schobert.

The decision to re-sign Schobert or not is arguably the biggest decision that Cleveland has to make this offseason. With it looking likely that the Browns let him walk, Hewitt is a viable option at inside linebacker.
