Vernon Butler
Besides the defensive end position, Indianapolis could also benefit from bolstering their defensive tackle positions. During the 2019 season, the Colts deployed an interior defensive line that featured Grover Stewart and Denico Autry.
Among Stewart and Autry, Autry has shown more promise for the Colts. Therefore, the front office could consider improving the defensive front alongside Autry.
With the duo of Stewart and Autry, the Colts boasted the No. 7 run defense in the NFL this season. Even though they were decent together, there’s a couple of talented defensive tackles available in free agency.
Near the top of the list of available interior defenders, Vernon Butler is an intriguing option for Indianapolis. The 25-year-old defensive tackle had his best season with the Carolina Panthers in 2019.
Butler concluded the 2019 campaign with a career-high six sacks, seven tackles for loss, eight quarterback hits, and three forced fumbles. The Louisiana Tech product proved that he was worth a first-round pick in 2016.
The Colts undoubtedly need to add a wide receiver or two during the offseason. But with this draft class being extremely deep at wide receiver, they can address other positions in free agency. With that in mind, Indianapolis shouldn’t pass up the chance of signing Butler.
