2 running backs the Rams should consider in second round of NFL Draft

Jesse Johnson-USA TODAY Sports

Jonathan Taylor, Wisconsin

After a stellar combine performance, Jonathan Taylor out of Wisconsin may have inched his way into the first round. If he’s still on the board once the second round starts, he could potentially fall to the Rams at 53.

Taylor is your prototypical workhorse back who’s at his best when he has a high volume of carries. The Rams were known for giving Gurley an abundance of carries, which eventually led to his nagging knee injuries, so don’t expect LA to go down that road again with whoever is their starter next year.

Taylor has a very solid burst through the line and has great open field speed to separate from defenders. Although, some scouts advise against him playing in a zone run scheme due to his lacking lateral quickness, but that’s not to say McVay couldn’t scheme up concepts that would suit Taylor’s running style.

If he does fall to the Rams in the second round of the NFL Draft, he’ll certainly be in consideration as Gurley’s replacement.
