2 teams who should consider trading for Falcons RB Todd Gurley

Atlanta Falcons running back Todd Gurley had a rough Sunday when he cost his team the win by scoring a touchdown, but he has still done well enough over the first half of the season to be a valuable running back on a different team.

The Gurley experiment in Atlanta is not going to result in wins and it is time for the Falcons to start building up on draft capital for the next few years.

Gurley may be removed from his All-Pro days when he played for the Los Angeles Rams, but he could still be an upgrade for a few teams around the league. He is averaging just 4.0 yards per carry, but he is currently leading all rushers in the NFL with seven touchdowns. Those numbers are not world beaters, but do show that he is a contributor still.

Here are two teams that should absolutely consider trading for the running back.

Washington Football Team

The Washington Football Team is still in the mix for the pitiful NFC East division title, but that does not mean that they are pushing their chips in for win now mode. Washington needs to approach every deal with the mindset of “Will this help us win two or three years from now” rather than looking at the present.

With that said, Todd Gurley could be a nice piece for Washington moving forward. He is only 26 right now, but they could bring him in from the Falcons and get him familiar with the offense and for the upcoming change in quarterback.

Being able to rely on the ground game would allow Washington to focus on their quarterback situation in the offseason and not expect the new guy to have to shoulder the whole offense.

Miami Dolphins

Miami is looking at the next season or two as the years where they will try and compete in the AFC East. With Tua Tagovailoa getting the nod to start leading the franchise moving forward, Miami could use a strong running game to help take the pressure off the youngster and allow him to develop naturally.

Acquiring Todd Gurley from the Falcons may not do enough for defenses to have to stack the box every play, but he would do enough that teams could not just sell out to stop Tua.

A reliable rusher and a strong red zone presence are exactly what the Dolphins need to help Tua over the next few years.
