2 Washington Commanders Fantasy Football Sleepers For 2024

The Washington Commanders are under new leadership from top to bottom. Between ownership, head coach, and quarterback changes, there’s a solid chance that real change could be happening in terms of results.

Fantasy managers who get in on the ground floor of the change could receive massive dividends this season.

However, if the prime suspects like Jayden Daniels and Terry McLaurin get taken, fret not.

Here are two big sleepers sitting on the Commanders’ roster in 2024.

Austin Ekeler, RB

Austin Ekeler is the second-string running back of the Commanders this season. Brian Robinson Jr. will be the starting running back, but that doesn’t mean that Ekeler won’t get plenty of action. Based on where both players are in their careers, this has a committee strategy written all over it.

A 900+ yard rusher with the Los Angeles Chargers in 2021 and 2022, Ekeler might have received a wake-up call when he was forced to switch teams this off-season.

As such, there is reason to believe that Ekeler could work his way into the starting role for the team by the end of the season. Even if he doesn’t, the running back will be a solid stash at worst if Robinson gets hurt. Ekeler has proven that he can handle starting duties, so this also would not be a shot in the dark.

Heading into an age 29 season, this could be the last year worth taking a shot on Ekeler.

Ben Sinnott, TE

Ben Sinnott was one of the most interesting tight-end prospects to be invited to the Senior Bowl earlier this year. As a rookie, there will be some growing pains. However, starter Zach Ertz has a loose grip on the starting role at best. Meaning, Ertz—who is turning 34—could be the team’s bridge tight end until Sinnott eases in.

Once the switch happens, the rookie could be a top-20 option at the position overnight. Getting in on the ground floor could be a massive opportunity for managers willing to take the risk. In the meantime, Sinnott also likely will get looks underneath as Daniels learns about the dangers of throwing deep constantly.

Sinnott earned 676 yards and six touchdowns in his final of three seasons at Kansas State. While not a shocking level of production, he displayed that he can learn and improve his production year over year. Also, after playing just three years in college, he has plenty of tread on the tires and untapped potential.

The Washington Commanders may have landed a steal.
