2020 NFL Draft: Texas WR Collin Johnson could be a massive steal

Derick E. Hingle-USA TODAY Sports

Most of the top receiver prospects in this year’s class are burners who have great run after the catch ability. Johnson, on the other hand, has made a living using his big body to make contested catches along with his sneaky quickness to get open.

He doesn’t possess world class speed, but his deliberate route running allows him to get open. Running the variety of routes he did at Texas will bode well for him when he hits an NFL field.

Johnson’s top quality is his football IQ. He knows how to attack defenders on his routes and has the awareness to use defensive backs’ leverage against them.

The Texas wideout also displayed some great sideline awareness, making toe-tap sideline catches with ease throughout his collegiate career.

Last season, Johnson missed some time due to a nagging hamstring injury, which is why he isn’t very high on draft boards right now. If he ends up falling to the third or fourth round, he’ll be one hell of a steal for any team that selects him.
