2020 NFL Draft: Why the Cowboys can’t afford to pass on Grant Delpit

Delpit is better than most of the free-agent options at safety

If the Cowboys don’t want to draft a safety, they could choose to sign one in free agency. As of now, Anthony Harris, Devin McCourty, and Ha Ha Clinton-Dix are the notable names available.

Dallas will begin free agency with a whopping $73.9 million in cap space, according to Spotrac. Even though they have plenty of cap space, that money can quickly be gone once the Cowboys re-sign some of their players.

In light of that, the Cowboys should realize that Delpit is better than most of the options available in free agency. At the same time, he would save Dallas money in the long run.

At LSU, Delpit showed that he well-versed as a coverage safety and just needs to work on his tackling. The potential of Delpit outweighs trying to sign an expensive veteran on the open market.
