2021 NFL Free Agency: 4 early targets the Cardinals should be watching

The Arizona Cardinals are one of the NFL’s most intriguing teams as we inch closer to the start of the 2020 regular season. Coming off a 5-10-1 campaign, there is a ton of hype surrounding the young team, and rightfully so as quarterback Kyler Murray excelled as a rookie despite playing behind woeful pass protection.

The former No. 1 overall pick completed over 64% of his passes for 3,722 yards and 20 touchdowns compared to 12 interceptions, winning the Offensive Rookie of the Year award in the process. Following the addition of All-Pro wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins, who came over via trade back in March, it’s widely expected that Murray takes a big leap as an NFL sophomore.

With that being said, the Cardinals have a lot of upgrading to do on both sides of the ball, particularly on defense. The Hopkins contract did eat into their salary cap space — $13.5 million to be exact — but Arizona is still projected to be the eighth wealthiest team in the league next offseason with $23.21 million at its disposal, according to Spotrac.

That should be enough for general manager Steve Keim to make a handful of necessary upgrades. With that in mind, let’s highlight a few impending free agents the Cardinals should absolutely be keeping an eye on this season.

(Full disclosure: these are merely names the Cardinals should be keeping an eye on. It’s obviously impossible for them to sign all four of these players.)
