Joe Thuney
The Lions drafting DeAndre Swift is a clear message of things to come. Detroit has been a pass happy offense throughout most of Matthew Stafford’s tenure. However, with the new addition of Swift, the Lions will likely be putting more of an emphasis on the ground game.
Adding offensive guard Joe Thuney will help boost this run game while giving Stafford another great pass blocker to help secure his safety and health.
Last season, the Lions were really limited due to injury. Stafford was having an MVP caliber start to the season. However, a season-ending injury put a stop to any of Detroit’s hopes for a playoff spot. With Stafford healthy, they may have a chance yet again.
However, keeping Stafford healthy is the main issue. The best way to do that would be to beef up this offensive line. That starts with signing Second-Team All-Pro Guard Joe Thuney.
Thuney has some connections in Detroit already. Lions head coach Matt Patricia was a defensive coordinator for the Patriots while Thuney was in New England. Patricia may have a leg up in the recruiting process, and signing Thuney would be the perfect addition to this Lions offense.
Detroit would have enough cap space to re-sign other stars as well and bring in some other solid veterans. This deal shouldn’t break the bank and the Lions would get a lot of value with this deal.
