2021 NFL Free Agency: 4 early targets the Rams should be watching

Rams, Los Angeles Rams, NFL, NFL Free Agency

At 8-4 with three wins in their last four games, the Los Angeles Rams are in good position heading into the stretch drive of the 2020 season. But looking to 2021, they are well over the early projected salary cap of $176 million. Even with recent optimism the cap won’t be that low, the Rams will still be left with little room to operate as it stands right now.

The Rams have committed a lot of money to quarterback Jared Goff. Aaron Donald, Jalen Ramsey, Robert Woods, Cooper Kupp and Michael Brockers are in the midst of their contracts, and left tackle Andrew Whitworth is expected back but retirement is possible. A top-heavy roster and the trading away of some draft picks to diminish that avenue to add younger, cheaper talent is not a great place to be.

The Rams won’t have a lot of money to spend, but they can improve on some margins to reinforce the roster in 2021. Here are four early free agent targets they should have in mind, internal or otherwise. As other teams make cuts approaching the start of the new league year, more options will surface.
