Leonard Floyd

While looking at stats suggests Leonard Floyd never really lived up to the expectations he faced since entering the NFL. However, he has shown versatility as a player with the ways the Chicago Bears used him and could be a helpful addition for the Washington Football Team.

Bringing in a hybrid backer like Floyd could do many great things for Washington’s defense. They could play him on the edge in a 3-4 scheme or keep him as a strong side backer in a 4-3 scheme. It’s even possible to drop back into coverage as a disguise backer. The possibilities are endless for Washington if they bring in Floyd.

When speaking with JJ Stankevitz of NBC Sports, Bears linebacker coach Ted Monachino praised Flyod’s flexibility and shined some light on the many ways he affects opposing offenses.

Leonard Floyd had done a great job of setting edges, he’s done a great job of affecting the passing game in coverage, he’s done a great job of knocking guys back into the launch point.

Even if Washington decides to just use Floyd as strictly an edge rusher, it gives them a fantastic four-man rotation. The combination of Chase Young, Montez Sweat, Ryan Kerrigan, and Floyd would be one of the NFL’s best. A combination of versatility and depth is every defensive coordinator’s dream–Floyd would bring both.
