2021 projections for Washington Football QB Ryan Fitzpatrick

One of the more intriguing moves that were pulled off during the NFL offseason was Ryan Fitzpatrick signing with the Washington Football Team. It is a move that piqued the interest of Fantasy Football managers and fans alike.

The Harvard grad is going on 39-year old in November, but he showed last season with the Miami Dolphins that he can still get it done. He started seven games for Miami, going 4-3 in those contests, and appeared in nine total. Fitzpatrick relieved Tua Tagovailoa twice, including a thrilling comeback against the Las Vegas Raiders in Week 15 to keep Miami’s playoff hopes alive.

The 2020 season was one of the best of Fitzpatrick’s career. He completed a career-high 68.5 percent of his passes. According to Pro-Football-Reference it was also one of his best seasons based on adjusted passing stats.

Can the gunslinging Fitzpatrick replicate that success with his new team? Lets take a dive into some predictions for the 2021 season.

What to Expect From Ryan Fitzpatrick In 2021

First impressions are usually when Ryan Fitzpatrick does his best work. The start of his tenure with new teams normally starts off well, but he falls off eventually. Signed only to a one-year deal with the Washington Football Team, they get more Fitzmagic than Fitztragic in 2021.

Washington has an excellent supporting cast surrounding Fitzpatrick. The offensive line is solid across the board, as they ranked sixth in 2020 according to Pro Football Focus and they added even more depth this season. Should an injury occur, Washington is well equipped to handle it.

At running back, Antonio Gibson really came on at the end of his rookie season. Combined with J.D McKissic, Peyton Barber and rookie Jaret Patterson, Washington has a strong running backs room.

At wide receiver, the team added Curtis Samuel from the Carolina Panthers in free agency. He, along with fellow free agent signing Adam Humphries, will help take pressure off of Terry McLaurin, who has turned into one of the better young receivers in the NFL after being selected in the 3rd round of the 2019 NFL Draft. There is also hope that Antonio Gandy-Golden, a 6’4” Liberty product, can start making an impact in his sophomore season.

And you cannot forget tight end Logan Thomas, the converted Virginia Tech quarterback. He was excellent last season, catching 72 passes for 670 yards and six touchdowns.

With all of the talent at his disposal, Fitzpatrick will have an excellent season as the starting quarterback. He will start every game this season and surpass the 4,000 yard passing mark for the first time in his career. A career-high 35 passing touchdowns will also be accumulated, as Fitzpatrick will do everything he can to help Washington repeat as NFC East champions.
