Everson Griffen
The Seahawks have been linked to former Minnesota Vikings defensive end Everson Griffen numerous times this offseason. The last update regarding that front was that Griffen has interested in signing with Seattle, but he will need to wait for the Jadeveon Clowney situation to play out.
The idea of signing Griffen would almost surely be with the frame of mind that he is merely a temporary boost. He is going to be turning 33-years-old in late December and it’s unlikely he will be able to continue to play at a high-level as he ages until proven otherwise.
The USC product played for Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll when he was still coaching at the collegiate level. That type of connection could certainly help Griffen make a chance when trying to pick where he will play in 2020.
Having an established familiarity with a head coach can go a long way for a player when deciding which team to sign with in free agency. There is an understanding of what the day-to-day is like while likely being able to go out and play in a very similar system, too.
