The 2021 NFL season looked promising for the Green Bay Packers and coming into the playoffs, many fans thought they would make a Super Bowl run. However, Aaron Rodgers and company were unable to get the job done. Once again, just like in many recent years, they lost early in the Divisional Round to the San Francisco 49ers.
What an awful ending to an amazing season it was for the Packers. Now, there are major questions about the future of the team once again.
Rodgers was very non-committal about his future with the Packers in the post-game press conference. After a long and drama-filled offseason last year, it seems very possible that he could leave Green Bay. If that is the case, there are plenty of teams around the NFL that would love to pull off a trade for him.
While potential trade destinations like the Denver Broncos have taken center stage, there are some under-the-radar places to watch as well. Let’s take a look at three dark-horse trade destinations to watch for Aaron Rodgers this offseason.
3. Indianapolis Colts
First up, let’s take a look at an AFC team that could look to swing big on a quarterback. After a brutal end to the season, the Colts may be interested in upgrading from Carson Wentz. They could even look to trade him, which could work out for both Indianapolis and the Packers.
A Wentz and plenty more for Rodgers swap would be interesting, to say the least. The Packers may have zero interest in Wentz, as it seems likely they would move forward with Jordan Love as their new quarterback. However, the Colts could find a way to work things out without Wentz in the deal as well.
Indianapolis is a superstar quarterback away from being a serious contender in the AFC. They have one of the NFL’s best up-and-coming superstars in Jonathan Taylor at running back. Rodgers would make their offense elite and would be well worth the price tag for the Colts to pursue.
2. New Orleans Saints
One team that would be a perfect landing spot would be the Saints. They are going to be looking at quarterback options this offseason and have some great trade chips. A combination of picks and talent would be what the Packers are looking for in any Aaron Rodgers trade.
Rodgers would immediately put New Orleans back on the map as a potential Super Bowl contender. He would also have a superstar running back to work with in Alvin Kamara, who is just as dangerous out of the backfield as a receiver as he is a runner. Michael Thomas could also be convinced to stay in town if the Saints acquire Rodgers from the Packers.
The Saints showed flashes of being a good team this season, but their quarterback situation was rough. If they want to swing big, pursuing a trade for Rodgers would make a ton of sense.
1. Tennessee Titans
Granted, the hype train surrounding Ryan Tannehill did not go as planned this season. However, he is still a good quarterback. But, if the Titans truly want to make a massive push to win a Super Bowl, doing whatever it takes to get a quarterback like Aaron Rodgers would be the move to make.
Can you imagine Rodgers working with wide receivers like A.J. Brown and Julio Jones? What about that trio along with a superstar running back in Derrick Henry? The Tennessee offense would be literally unstoppable.
The only thing holding the Titans back this season was their inconsistent passing attack and Henry’s injury. If they did find a way to acquire Rodgers from the Packers, everything would look better in Nashville.
