Solidifies Himself Among Elite Receivers
The Vikings relied heavily on Stefon Diggs last season and despite his impressive production, he simply didn’t receive the respect he deserved. The focus has remained on Adam Thielen in recent years despite Diggs being a key contributor and thriving in big moments.
Some may argue that playing alongside Thielen helped make things easier for Diggs to achieve the results he has in recent seasons. That’s true to an extent as it would be for any receiver, but the 2019 season was a prime display of what Diggs can do as a No. 1 target.
According to NFL Next Gen Stats, there were only three receivers that accounted for at least a 40% share of their respective team’s air yards in 2019. Those players included Courtland Sutton (42.93%) and Michael Thomas (41.34%) along with Diggs (41.27%).
There won’t be much of an adjustment for Diggs shouldering a heavier load of responsibility with the Bills considering he’s already done it. With a respectable supporting cast, an increase in targets will help Diggs to solidify himself among the NFL’s elite receivers.
