Herbert will be the starting quarterback by the end of the season
Before the Herbert selection, the Chargers already had a competent quarterback in Tyrod Taylor in line to be the starter. During his nine year career, Taylor has thrown for 9,562 yards, 54 touchdowns to just 20 interceptions, while completing 61.6 percent of his passes.
He would’ve done fine as the starter this season, but with the rookie Herbert now in the fold, the organization will likely try to push him into the starting spot sooner than later, even if he’s not totally ready.
Taylor was in a similar situation when he was with the Cleveland Browns and they selected Baker Mayfield first overall. Once Taylor went down with an injury, Mayfield took the field and never looked back. Don’t be surprised if a similar scenario plays out in Los Angeles.
