50 receptions
To some people, it was a surprise that the Chiefs selected Edwards-Helaire while D’Andre Swift, J.K. Dobbins, and Jonathan Taylor were still on the board. But the main reason why Kansas City and Andy Reid wanted Edwards-Helaire was his ability to be a weapon in the passing game.
With Patrick Mahomes under center, there’s no mistaking the fact that the Chiefs would prefer to throw the ball as much as possible. Why not turn back the clock and give Reid a running back that is very similar to Brian Westbrook?
In his final season at LSU, Edwards-Helaire was able to record 55 receptions for 453 yards and a touchdown. Now, in an offense that is predicated on putting the ball in the air, Edwards-Helaire should see plenty of targets out of the backfield. With that in mind, it’s very possible that he is able to corral over 50 receptions in his first season with the Chiefs.
