The San Francisco 49ers dominated the headlines a month before the NFL Draft when they traded up to the number three overall pick in the first round, and they made an even bigger splash when they selected North Dakota State quarterback Trey Lance with the pick.
Lance is a raw prospect who dominated in a lower level of competition, but he has all the tangibles you look for in an NFL quarterback. His unique ability to run the ball and put polish on deep downfield throws makes him very unique, and we’re here to try to make some early predicitions on the rookie signal caller.
With that being said, let’s take a look at three early predictions for Lance in his rookie season with the 49ers in 2021.
3. He Will Win The Starting Job Over Jimmy G
The first prediction I have for Trey Lance is that he will win the starting quarterback job over Jimmy Garoppolo. If the 49ers keep Garoppolo on their roster, it’s hard to imagine him starting over Lance.
Lance is unproven, but his upside could very well be enough for Kyle Shanahan to give him the starting nod. He isn’t going to be a superstar from the second he steps on the field, but the surrounding talent in San Francisco could allow him to become one in the near future.
2. At Least 30 Total Touchdowns
The second prediction I have for Lance is that he will toss 20 or more touchdowns and run for 10 or more touchdowns as well. Lance has impressive athleticism, which is one of the things that makes him so special.
Lance can run the ball like Cam Newton or throw it like Justin Herbert, and the 49ers will love the new signal caller they just brought in. Having a season of this multitude in his first year would surely be very impressive, but I think Lance can make it happen. This is the start of something special in San Francisco.
1. Trey Lance Will Lead The 49ers To The Playoffs As A Rookie
The third and final prediction I have for Trey Lance is that he will guide the San Francisco 49ers back into the playoffs.
Lance was brought to San Francisco to make an immediate impact, and he will. San Francisco really only needed a quarterback to get them over the hump in the NFC West, and now that they have one they could not only make the playoffs but be Super Bowl contenders. Trey Lance is going to have a major impact for the 49ers immediately.
