After much speculation was made about Cam Newton’s future with the Carolina Panthers, there are few answers with plenty of questions remaining. Will he be on the team past the offseason? If so, will he be the starter? Only time will tell.
Recently hired Panthers head coach Matt Rhule made it clear where the team stands on Newton’s future with the team. Rhule went out of his way to address the questions surrounding the former NFL MVP and expressed how excited he is to get to work with him, but wouldn’t commit to him as the team’s starter.
While Rhule said what he was supposed to in order to keep all possibilities regarding Newton open, actions speak louder than words. The Panthers have the No. 7 pick in the upcoming NFL Draft. What they end up doing with that selection could be telling.
If the Panthers end up undergoing a rebuild, there is a chance they take a quarterback in the first round. It seemed they were rather interested in Oregon’s Justin Herbert at his Pro Day recently, so that could be something to watch.
With that being said, there are three goals Newton should have for this offseason.
