The Green Bay Packers are heading into a new frontier this season. In an uncharacteristic move, the Packers have paid Jordan Love before seeing him guarantee a high floor in the NFL. As such, fans will be eager to see if the unit can deliver as a whole this season.
That said, teams are nothing but a group of players doing individual tasks to reach a greater good.
Here’s a look at three key players whose individual production could raise or sink Packers hopes this season.
Jordan Love
Love’s production in 2024 might be the most important single workload in more than a decade. If Love can produce at a level similar to what he pulled off last season, the Packers will be in the driver’s seat as perhaps the first team in NFL history to have three consecutive franchise quarterbacks. However, if Love craters this season, the Packers might be in for their first conventional quarterback search in decades.
For Love to put any remaining doubts to bed, he must throw for at least 30 touchdowns and finish over .500. If he falls short in both categories, the elite-level status of the franchise might be in trouble.
Christian Watson
Christian Watson claims to have fixed his injury issue this off-season. According to reports, his muscle mass in his legs were uneven, creating his injury bug. If the Packers receiver can put pen to paper this season, Love’s offense could be twice as good as it was last year.
However, fixing one’s injury trouble can be a slippery beast. Once one injury gets fixed, another can happen. Fans can only hope to see Watson remain healthy this year.
If Watson can play in at least 15 games this season and earn 1000 yards, fans can confidently put worries about the pass-catcher to bed.
Josh Jacobs
The Raiders never appeared to fall in love with Josh Jacobs, despite watching him earn 1653 yards and 12 touchdowns in 2022. Instead of rewarding their running back, the Raiders allowed him to join the Packers.
This sets up for a tense comparison throughout the season. The Raiders let him walk, while the Packers elected to hand him the keys to the starting slot.
As such, if Jacobs comes up short, Raiders fans will have bragging rights. If he takes off, on the other hand, Packers fans will have the last laugh.
